USB Modem not detected... by

I've just attached a Compaq 56k USB external fax modem to my kids computer to
allow them internet access, but the modem is not recognized via the USB port.
I have the install disk for the modem, but it's not recognizing the modem
when i use the setup for this.
Any ideas on what I can do to...

My Compaq crashed a while back. Since all Compaq gives you is a Restore CD
and not a system disk, I feel a bit lost. I did the "chat" thing with their
"techs" (more like keyword FAQ retrievers!), and so far have had no luck.

Windows Explorer hangs when deleting a large number of files by

When deleting more than about 350 files Windows freezes but the deletion is
done, what I see after deleting WE.
There is a get around solution at www.helmrohr.de but I wondering why
